Portable Internet Connection Devices - Mega Review

Portable internet devices are for connecting to the internet where none exists and can be a great alternative to public wifi hotspots that you would find at the airport, hotel, or coffee shop that may not be as safe or may simply run slow. Portable internet connection devices pertain to a variety of products and could be referred to as portable or travel hotspots, routers, and mifi to name a few. The best news is that these devices allow you access to the internet in complete security.

The latest portable internet devices are blazing fast, and can allow several computers/smartphones to connect at once. Another nice thing about these portable devices is they can also serve as backup if anything should happen to your home wifi. Plus, you can connect your portable wifi device to a different mobile carrier than the one your mobile phone uses. What’s great about that? Purchasing from another carrier can give you a fuller range of mobile coverage and offer a fall back if either mobile carrier network is down or slow.

The best of them can use the fastest internet options available today like 5G. Look for the upload and download connection speeds – good ones have around 300Mbps download speed and around 50Mbps upload speed. Also, check the battery life – a 24 hour charge is good but could be less based on the number of devices connected. Which brings another point and that is to determine the number of computers and devices you want to connect. Some portable wifi devices will also allow you to connect to the internet with a USB or ethernet cable to give you more connection options and make your connection faster and easier for more situations. Some portable wifi devices even charge your phone or devices. Dual or multi-band portable devices provide more than one connection option. For example, you can connect with either 2.4Ghz connection or the 5Ghz to access the internet.

Most require a mobile carrier plan typically from Verizon, AT&T or T-Mobile but there are other smaller carrier's that can provide more options. Mobile carriers themselves will have their own devices to choose from. Be aware that the devices sold by these carrier's will only work on that carrier's plan and is considered 'locked'. You can choose to purchase an 'unlocked' device that can use any mobile carrier plan separately. An unlocked device means you can switch mobile phone carriers just by changing out the SIM card on your portable device. The SIM card identifies you and the mobile carrier plan you are using.
